Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Honors Jeffrey B. Murphy as Small Private Company ‘CFO of the Year’
MINNEAPOLIS, MN–(Marketwire – December 8, 2010) – Jeffrey B. Murphy, CFO of Hartfiel Automation, was recently named the winner of the 2010 ‘CFO of the Year Award’ in the category of Small Private Business for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. The announcement was made during an awards luncheon Wednesday November 18, 2010 at the Hyatt in Minneapolis, MN.
For each of the categories, CFO candidates were evaluated based on criteria measuring the extent and effectiveness of their work. Mary Jo Corson, Executive Assistant at Hartfiel said, “I have known Jeff for about 14 years. I have been very fortunate to work with him in both his CFO and CEO capacity. Jeff is a very honest and caring person and speaks from his heart. I was so pleased to be able to attend the CFO Award program and see that he was recognized for his achievements.”
Upon his return to Hartfiel headquarters, all employees celebrated Murphy’s win. Myron Moser, CEO, recounted to the gathered group the many accomplishments and company gains attributed to Murphy. Murphy responded, “I am honored to be named CFO of the Year. My success is attributable to outstanding execution by my finance teammates, a management team that listened, believed and executed on the ideas that I brought to the Company and a CEO, Myron Moser, who trusted and was open to great change. Hartfiel is a very special company. It has great culture built on integrity and ethics delivered from the top down. Hartfiel Believes in Education
Posted on: November 30th, 2010
Hartfiel Automation is dedicated to ensuring the future of manufacturing in America by working closely with educational organizations. Realizing the importance of educating today’s youth on tomorrow’s careers in this line of work, Hartfiel has been working closely with Hennepin Technical College to try to promote and enhance the public image of the manufacturing trade. “The community colleges are promoting that they have educational training available, but you don’t hear enough about, ‘Well, did you realize that you could get that [training] for free through a tax credit, a government grant or on a loan basis where you can pay it back after you get a job?’” Mark Tomlinson says, “There needs to be a more concerted effort to make it easy for the worker to get that training.(1)
It is just this type of program that Hartfiel is working to promote not only as a fiscal contributor to the college, but also in a more personal way. Myron Moser, the current CEO of Hartfiel, is currently a board member of the Hennepin Technical College Foundation, and is working with the other members to help get the word out about these types of programs. Each year Hennepin Tech organizes a fundraiser on their campus to fill the scholarship coffer. On Saturday, October 16th, under the theme “inspiration celebration”, they held the 12th annual dinner and silent auction, raising an impressive $103,000.
As the global economy rolls into the 21st century, we are seeing many traditional careers transform into new and exciting options for up and coming students. The manufacturing sector is, contrary to current public opinion, at the forefront of this movement. Although many low-wage opportunities have been transplanted overseas, there is a very bright future in the field of complex manufacturing. Hartfiel Automation is, along with Hennepin Technical College, leading the way to ensuring a bright future for this industry.
